Welcome to IEC 61850 USA 2024!

IEC 61850 has reached a tipping point in Europe and in many other parts of the world, but its deployment within USA utilities is yet to be fully realised. During the course of this 3-day case-study driven conference, power grid substation automation leaders and their implementation teams come together for a review of IEC 61850 pilot projects in the USA and an exploration of its potential as the de facto communication protocol for the substation, inter-substation and to the control centre.

Day one provides a thorough briefing on the Business Case for IEC 61850, comparing it with other standards and exploring the interworking issues, to help participants fine-tune their own business case and communicate it in a way that gains Board commitment and secures long term investment. Days two and three provide a programme of technical case-studies focused on the results of pilot projects and the roadmaps for large-scale commercial deployment.

This forum provides a great opportunity for grid operators, system and tool suppliers, and system integrators to get onto the same page and share their experiences and expertise, collaborate and cooperate, and stimulate the market for IEC 61850 in the USA.
