Martin Greenwood is a Technologist within the Asset Management Department of TenneT, specializing in Power System Protection and Control. A flexible engineering professional with more than 25 years’ experience in the field of Substation Secondary engineering he has worked on projects Worldwide (mainly in the UK, USA and the Middle East). He is currently responsible for the Technical Specifications for Substation Automation Systems for TenneT Offshore Substations in Germany and the Netherlands, and is also heavily involved in TenneT’s IEC 61850 Standardisation efforts

Bendic Ritt, Project Manager – Stromnetz Hamburg
Having studied Electrical Engineering (M. Sc.) at Hamburg University of Technology, Bendic now works as a project leader at Stromnetz Hamburg, Germany. Since 2019, he is responsible for the project “Umspannwerk 2030 (UW2030)” which deals with the development of a standard for future digital primary substations for the distribution grid of Hamburg. Focus topics of the project are IEC 61850, top-down engineering, central protection, internet of things (IoT) and non-conventional instrument transformers, of which a pilot substation is planned from 2022-2024.

Farzad has 18 years’ experience in Substation Automation, SCADA, EMS/PMS and ADMS systems. In 2005, he joined PKG company as a substation Automation and protection engineer and here he led multiple distribution and transmission substation automation projects. In 2013 he joined ETAP as a Senior Automation and Control Engineer and a DMS Lead, where he led technical teams to design, develop, implement, and deliver the distribution system analysis, GIS base network modelling in grid modernization, microgrid and infrastructure replacement programs. He joined Southern California Edison in 2020 as senior technical lead for edge technology projects including Virtual Protection Relay (VPR) substations, Substation Automation, Distribution Automation, Machine Learning systems.

Sander Jansen
Sander Jansen, Product Owner Virtual Substations – Alliander
Sander has more than 10 years’ experience in the DSO sector on the edge of business/IT/OT and has knowledge of applying IEC 61850 and IEC CIM. Sander is now product owner of the virtual substations team for medium and high voltage stations within the system operations department at the Dutch DSO Alliander. He is partly responsible for innovation in the 61850 and substation domain to facilitate the energy transition. Sander is a strong advocate of the open source concept and is applying it in the LF energy CoMPAS project and LF energy ecosystem.
Birkir Heimisson-1-1
Birkir Heimisson, Specialist in Digital and Smart-Grid Development – Landsnet
Birkir has a B.Sc. Electrical Engineering from University of Iceland (2011) and M.Sc.in Electric Power Engineering from Chalmers University (2014). Birkir joined Landsnet as a system operator in 2014. Together with system operation, he led the Smart-grid development with focus on Wide-Area-Measurements and Control. Additionally, Birkir was the work-package leader for Landsnet in EU Horizon 2020 MIGRATE project. In 2019, he moved to research and development, where he focuses on Digital Substation IEC 61850 implementation and Smart-Grid Development.
Florian Soyez-1
Florian Soyez, Expert Secondary Systems – Elia
Florian graduated in 2012 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. His first experience was at Technord Group as a project engineer designing low-voltage power distribution and automation of industrial production lines, and in 2014 he joined Elia. Initially he worked in Secondary Systems Expertise managing the technical part of frame agreements and he is currently working in the Virtual Substation department. Florian has experience in digital substation engineering and testing from pilot projects. His focus is currently on IEC61850 top-down engineering process and the newest standard enhancements regarding specifications and templates, identification/specification of appropriate tools for system specification/configuration, file management and documentation as well as benefits analysis for Elia infrastructure projects.

Renaud Renaud-Drouin, Automation Engineer – Hydro Quebec
Renaud graduated from Sherbrooke University (Canada) in 2009 with a bachelor’s in electrical engineering and started working for Schneider Electric. Here he gained experience in various international projects and drove Protection & Control projects from the drawing board to the commissioning stage. In 2018, he moved to Hydro-Québec to jumpstart a new generation of Protection & Control systems based on IEC 61850. Here he found innovative solutions to drive down the cost of deployment to stations and searched for new ways to optimize Protection & Control systems.
Jennifer Mackenzie-1
Jennifer Mackenzie, Lead Design Engineer – Scottish Power Energy Networks
Jennifer Mackenzie has worked within Protection & Control for SP Energy Networks for 10 years. She is currently a Lead Design Engineer, working on the development and delivery of major transmission network projects. As part of this, she is a member of the company’s Digital Substation Working Group, looking at the roll out of IEC 61850 station and process bus as a business-as-usual solution. She has previously worked within the Standards and Business Plan Development teams.
David MacDonald
David MacDonald, System Architect, Standardisation - General Electric

David works within Grid Automations Office of Innovation at General Electric where he helps define system and solutions standardization. Prior to this he worked in the standardized design and industrialized engineering process of the Substation Automation System at Iberdrola Distribution. .He received his MEng degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, from the University of Strathclyde, and is a member of Cigre Working group B5.68 and IEC61850 WG10.

Rene Troost, Grid Strategies – Stedin
René graduated as an Electrical Engineer and started his career in Telecommunications. In 2014, René joined Stedin, the DSO for the South-West area of The Netherlands, including the Port of Rotterdam. He is currently responsible for substation automation policy in Stedin and chairs the Dutch technical working group designing a DSO/TSO-DER interface. Furthermore, he is an active member of the Dutch Committee of the IEC TC57 (NEC57) and the Technical Committee TC57 WG10 that deals with power system intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), communication and associated data models and chairs the Dutch CIGRE B5 study committee.
Chi Shiang Cho
Chi-Shiang Cho, Research & Development, Taiwan Power Research Institute – Taiwan Power Company
Chi-Shiang Cho has a B.S. degree in Computer and Information Science from National Chiao Tung University. He has an M.S. degree in Computer Science and Information Engineering and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, both from National Taiwan University. He was a research engineer at National Health Research Institute from 2001 to 2005. In 2005 he joined Taipower and   was engaged in many power plant and headquarter projects. In 2017, he joined the ICT lab in Taiwan Power Research Institute. His current research interests include ICT related application of smart grids and electric power systems. Dr. Cho has published several papers in journals and conferences and holds one patent. He also has reviewed over fifty journal papers.

Salim Bouramman, Expert OT Cyber Resilience and Cyber Range – E.ON
Salim Bouramman is an expert in OT-Systems in the power grid sector with more than a decade of experience. He is a consultant for Cyber Resilience in E.ON’s Cyber Security Unit. In his role, he supports the development of resilient operational concept and is a trainer in E.ON’s CyberRange-e. Here he develops and operates the simulated technical energy infrastructure for his trainees and improves their ability to withstand cyber-attacks. Formerly, he was product lifecycle manager for grid protection systems at a German DSO. He was commissioned with the standardization of protection technologies and fundamental issues for the operation and risk assessment of thousands of protection, automation, and control devices.

Associate Technical Director, Energy and Resource – Arcadis

Tuan has over 25 years of experience in the Electricity Supply Industry in high-capacity roles. He is currently responsible for Powerlink’s IEC 61850 Digital Substation Strategy, which enables Queensland Transmission network to accommodate increased penetration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) – Renewable Supergrid. He is a technical specialist in Digital Assets Strategies, Asset Management, Power Systems Harmonics and Network Modelling, Voltage and Reactive Power Control, Static Var Compensator and STATCOM, SCADA and Substation Secondary Systems. Tuan is a Fellow Member of Engineers Australia an active member of Standards Australia, CIGRE and IEC Technical Committees and Working Groups.
Dennis Murphy
Dennis Murphy, Lead OT Security Engineer – National Grid, US

Dennis Murphy started his career as a Control System Engineer, specializing in designing, installing and maintaining process automation networks. In 2005, Dennis shifted his focus to from designing to securing control system networks, working on R&D projects to secure US critical infrastructure as a member of BAE Systems. In 2015, he joined SecurityMatters and was responsible for Intrusion Detection Systems built for OT networks, he installed these systems at multiple US electric utility companies, specializing in the integration of OT specific alerts into existing Security Operation Centers and the creation of bespoke workflows and playbooks. In 2021, Dennis joined National Grid as the Lead OT Security Engineer for the Digital Substation group in the US, responsible for securing OT networks with IDS systems and adapting IT-based security solutions to install an edge compute element to field sites.

Pablo Humeres Flores, Head of Digital Supervision and Automation - CGT ELETROSUL

Pablo is an Electrical Engineer who graduated from the Federal University of Santa Catarina - UFSC, where he also graduated in Master of Power Systems. He also has an MBA with specialization in Electric Energy Market from the University of Vale do Itajai - UNIVALI. Pablo has been an Engineer at CGT Eletrosul since 1987, acting in project, maintenance, operation, and development of automation systems. He is the author of several papers published in national and international seminars and magazines. Pablo is also an active participant in CIGRE working groups, events, and publications. Currently, he is the head of supervision and control systems, automation infrastructure of HV transmission substations, power plants and Control Centres at Eletrosul.

Frans Campfens
Frans Campfens, Principal Consultant Energy Consulting - Qirion

Frans Campfens has a master’s degree in Business Telecommunication and a solid background in IT/OT. In the last 33 years he has been primarily involved in the utility industry as a project manager and consultant with a wide range of subjects including telecommunication, ICT, AMR, Smart Grid and Network Analytics. Currently he is a Principal Consultant at Qirion Energy Consulting involved with the standardisation of the IT/OT processes on substation automation. He is also developing the data integration and synergy between SCADA and AMI systems, such as the use of smart meter data for grid operation using advanced analytics as well as grid optimization using digital twins, AI and ML.

Rafael San Juan Moya, Digital Platforms and Innovation Team - Iberdrola
Rafael graduated from the University of Warwick in 2012 as a Master of Engineering. He went on to work for Duro Felguera as a Project Engineer for crude oil projects in Peru, Cyprus and South Africa. In 2016 he joined Scottish Power as an Implementation and Coordination Manager, here he was involved in diverse project management areas including planning, forecasting, IT systems and data intelligence. He also managed the team responsible for the coordination of the SMART metering programme and implanted new processes to the business. In 2020 he moved over to Iberdrola where he works on the Digital Platforms & Innovation Team implementing new technologies.
Anna Tortora
Anna Carolina Tortora, Virtual Energy System Programme Director, Head of Digital Transformation and Innovation Strategy - National Grid ESO

Anna Carolina Tortora majored in Aerospace Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has 10+ years’ experience in energy sector innovation. As Head of Innovation at TernaSpA she led research into electrochemical energy storage transmission, grid flexibility, and demand side management. Anna is currently the Head of Digital Transformation and Innovation Strategy at National Grid DSO. In this role she is the creator, sponsor, and current programme director for the Virtual Energy System, a digital twin of the whole energy system that will be a tool to run a zero carbon grid in the future.

Antonio Trematerra has extensive experience in coding and software analysis. He began working for Enel Spa in 2007 and managed global IT projects within the digital transformation programme LATAM and worked on utilising cloud technology to accelerate digitalisation. Jürgen is an electrical engineer and loves to see electrical processes visualized on computer screens. Therefore he works for COPA-DATA as Industry Manager Energy & Infrastructure. Jesus Molina

Jesus Molina is Waterfall’s Director of Industrial Security. He is a security expert in both OT and IT security. A former hacker, his research on offensive security in industrial systems has been echoed by many publications and media, including Wired and NPR. Mr. Molina has acted as chair in several security organizations, including the Trusted Computing Group and the IoT Internet Consortium. He is the co-writer of the Industrial Internet Security Framework and the author of several security related patents and academic research papers. Mr. Molina holds a M.S. and a Ph.D from the University of Maryland.

Mohseen is an Engineering Manager in Policy and Standards Team. Sharing responsibilities for Protection & Control aspects for delivery and innovation projects within Transmission. Christoph Brunner graduated as an electrical engineer at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in 1983. He is a Utility Industry professional with over 25 years of industry experience with both knowledge across several areas within the Utility Industry and of technologies from the Automation Industry. He is president of it4power in Switzerland, a consulting company to the power industry. He has worked as a project manager at ABB Switzerland Ltd in the business area Power Technology Products in Zurich / Switzerland where he was responsible for the process close communication architecture of the substation automation system. Herb has an MSEE in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University and is the US lead for IEC TC57 WG15 (Security) and Editor of several IEC 61850 related standards. He has expertise in the development of integrated solutions and standards that support real-time control and automation to meet electrical utility client requirements. Alex Stefanov-1


Alex Stefanov, Assistant Professor - TU Delft
Alexandru Stefanov is Assistant Professor of Intelligent Electrical Power Grids at TU Delft, The Netherlands. He is Technical Director of the Control Room of the Future (CRoF) technology centre. His research interests are cyber security for power grids, resilience of cyber-physical systems, and next generation grid operation. He is currently developing power grid digital twins and AI-based, automated cyber security technologies to improve the power system operational resilience to cyber attacks. He holds the professional title of Chartered Engineer from Engineers Ireland.
