Welcome to the Fundamentals of IEC CIM Online Training Programme

This 12-week community-based learning event has been developed in collaboration with 20+ CIM specialists from across the smart grid sector, to ensure that your teams have all the theoretical and practical knowledge they need to embark on their CIM implementation journey with confidence.

As the demand for decentralized smart grid applications grows, utilities face increasing complexity with the volume of stakeholder demand for data. Interoperable data exchange between grid systems has become essential to support the development of a robust, sustainable energy system. CIM provides an opportunity for a single source of truth - a common language that enables efficient data exchange between different players in the grid ecosystem. With growing regulatory demand for interoperability and CIM adoption becoming a prescribed condition of utility licenses, it is now vital that utility technical teams commit to developing the skillset needed to navigate the complexities of grid data exchange, and develop strategies for realising the opportunities presented by CIM to extract maximum value from grid data.

Programme Highlights:

Overview: Understanding the key operational and organisational data exchange challenges faced by the smart grid, and the role of IEC CIM in achieving grid systems data interoperability and meeting regulatory data exchange requirements

Language and Terminology: Getting to grips with the core concepts, modelling languages, and terminology used by CIM in relation to grid systems, and an introduction to CIM profiles and extensions

Use Cases: Learning how CIM can be applied to help meet the evolving data-exchange requirements of the smart grid through detailed utility use-cases across transmission, distribution, generation, and consumption

Implementation: Gaining practical insight into implementing CIM across grid-wide applications, and learning strategies for overcoming common technical and organisational barriers to successful adoption and implementation of CIM

Programme Structure:

PROGRAMME: 12 x 90-min weekly modules every Thursday afternoon

MODULES: Speaker presentation, practical problem-solving exercise, Q&A

CERTIFICATION: Weekly 10-question quiz plus final exam to achieve CPD certification
