Welcome to Digital Substations 2019

The 4th edition of the Digital Substations conference, formerly known as IntelliSub Europe, took place 26th– 28th November 2019, in Berlin. This year’s programme drew together 100+ participants to review 20+ utility implementation case-studies. Discussions focussed on system tendering and specification, design and implementation, advanced functionalities, testing and certification, operation and maintenance, as well as future system developments in the context of IoT, Cloud, AI & ML among others.

Digital Substations 2019 programme highlights included:


  • Case-study driven conference programme – in-depth insights into the latest Digital Substation projects and strategies of pioneering European utilities, and how new systems and processes are being developed to support digital transformation
  • Roundtable breakout sessions – selection of intimate roundtables, each addressing a key theme arising from the opening day’s discussions, to allowing participants to delve deeper into the most specific issues impacting their organisation
  • Networking evening reception – participants could relax and unwind after a full day of presentations and panel discussions, meet with colleagues from across the European smart grid digital substation community, and reflect on new ideas and opportunities for collaboration
  • Technology innovation panel discussions – delegates had the chance to quiz the leading tech experts, stress test their product development plans, and influence the direction of their product innovation in favour of end-user requirements
  • AI and Machine Learning for the Substation Tutorial – a 90 minute deep dive into integrating AI & ML functionality into digital substations to drive the self-healing self-learning substation
